Adventure Camp is a place for puppies to come and learn while their humans are at work, school, or just taking a much-needed break! This service is carefully and thoughtfully curated to foster the maximum learning benefit for the puppies in our care. We host 4 puppies on each day of Camp so that your puppy can receive so much individual attention from the Camp team!

We base our early puppy socialization services, like Adventure Camp, on the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior’s Position Statement on Puppy Socialization, and try to minimize health risks by utilizing a space like our training room that is cleaned regularly.
The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior’s Position Statement on Puppy Socialization states, “In general, puppies can start puppy socialization classes as early as 7-8 weeks of age. Puppies should receive a minimum of one set of vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first deworming. They should be kept up-to-date on vaccines throughout the class. The primary and most important time for puppy socialization is the first three months of life. During this time puppies should be exposed to as many new people, animals, stimuli and environments as can be achieved safely and without causing overstimulation manifested as excessive fear, withdrawal or avoidance behavior. For this reason, the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior believes that it should be the standard of care for puppies to receive such socialization before they are fully vaccinated.”
However, we never want to encourage our students to go against the advice or direction of their primary care veterinarian, so evaluating the situation from all sides is important. Since your veterinarian treats physically sick puppies and we work with behavior challenges in dogs often associated with missing early socialization periods, we are coming at this from two different sides of the issue. It’s a tough compromise, and both are very important positions to consider.

Raising a puppy is a lot of work! At Adventure Camp, we take some of that work off of your plate so that you can enjoy more of your well-behaved puppy!
Positive socialization is so important to puppy development. Our small group play sessions focus on teaching puppies how to play appropriately, regulate their behavior, and enjoy many different types of dog friends.
Hands-on training with a professional dog trainer can catalyze training success. We’ve trained a LOT of dogs, and we’re pretty good at it! Let us take the lead on teaching your puppy some essential foundation skills, so that you can easily build on that strong foundation for many years to come.

What Does a Day at Camp Look Like?

Please note that this is a sample schedule, and subject to change daily based on individual dogs’ needs & other factors such as weather conditions.
7:30 - 8:00am - Drop Off Your Puppy for a morning of fun & learning!
8:00 - 8:30am - First small group play time!
8:30 - 9:30am - Each Adventure Camp pup gets their first training session, followed by nap time in their crate while the other pups take their turns.
9:30 - 10:30am - Loose Leash Walking / Socialization Adventure in the neighborhood & second small group play time.
10:30 - 11:30am - Each Adventure Camp pup gets their second 10 minute training session, followed by nap time in their crate while the other pups take their turns.
11:30am - 12:00pm - Pick Up Your Happy & Tired Puppy!
What Does Your Puppy Learn at Camp?
For each Adventure Camp pup, we work on teaching them Foundation Behaviors & Life Skills that every growing dog needs to live their best lives with their human families!

Marker Training Basics - how to offer work cooperatively with a human & take treats as rewards
Hand Target with Nose - getting comfortable with hands near faces (no biting!), and great foundation skill for future leash walking, polite greeting, and coming when called goals!
Attention Cue - give orientation & attention to a human on a word or sound cue
Target a Mat - learning settle & relaxation basics, essential foundation for future goals like brewery manners!
Look at That - confidence building for watching scary or new things calmly, and essential foundation for future polite greetings and coming when called goals

Relaxing & Napping in a Pen - independently working on a puzzle toy or sleeping away from a human
Positive Socialization - exposure to new things in a way that minimizes fear and promotes confidence
Polite Interactions with Humans - how to ask for attention, how to play appropriately, and how to “share” toys and other resources with humans
Polite Interactions with Other Dogs - how to read social cues from other dogs, take breaks during play, and how to calmly exist around other dogs without play
Gear Conditioning - collar, leash, harness put on and off without biting hands or equipment, and leash walking foundations
Potty Training - puppy learns to go potty outside on a leash
